Summarize the main effects of globalization and discuss to what extent they are beneficial to subject area

It is widely believed that globalization has become an important issue, which draws the general concern of the international community. Globalization in its literal sense is the process of transformation of regional things or phenomena into global ones. It can also be used to describe a process by which the people of the world are unified into a single society and function together. The effect of globalization is all-pervasive, for example, international politics, economics, technologies and cultural exchanges. Whether it brings advantages or disadvantages to the world has become a hot topic. Supporters contend that globalization make positive impacts, which are far outweigh the disadvantages .On the other hand, critics think sometimes international integration is unequal . According to Williamson (1998) "Globalization leads to increase the gap between poor and rich.” In this essay, I will observe the positive and negative effects of globalization in different areas, such as international trade, people's daily life, and the peace of the world, after which I will discuss the benefits it brings to my subject area— management.

Globalization makes it possible to carry out international trade between different countries, by which they can reasonably make use of resources and exert their competitive advantages to maximum benefits for all stakeholders. Furthermore, it is meaningful to both domestic market and global market—products can be easily transferred between different locations. Due to this overall resources and benefits in market can be satisfied as much as possible from the global point of view. Goods and services, labor force, capital management have obtained positive effects by globalization. Another profit is that locations of raw material and final product can be more easily transported between each area and therefore closer. This is even obviously beneficial to large overseas companies, which may hold many branches located in different countries. Thanks to globalization, they have more freedom to set their factories in countries with cheaper labor and sell products in other markets. One of the examples is Nike. It used to built factories mainly in China before and put the products in Europe and America. However, because labor is becoming more expensive in China, such factories are gradually being transferred to like Indonesia, Vietnam etc. This leads to many unemployed in the last cooperate country . Oppositely China is involved in this international market more as purchaser. It can be obviously found that open market due to globalization brings more welfare and flexibility to all stakeholders because of free trade. Critics of globalization have argued that the process has exploited people in developing countries, caused massive disruptions to their lives and produced few benefits in return. ” For many of the poorest least-developed countries the problem is not that they are being impoverished by globalization, but that they are in danger of being largely excluded from it.” (Pre- sessional academic English course, page53)

Globalization also plays a significant role in people's life. Vehicles and communication technology, such as bus, car, train, plane, internet and mobile phone, are shrinking the world. They all make things convenient to people. Simply take a Renault car for example; it is absolutely a French brand. However it is highly possible that the key part like motors are provided by American company, the tires are provided by Bridgestone, which is owned by Japan. At the same time, it can be assembled by Vietnamese worker and then sold on Korean market. Who does on earth the car belong to? As one of negative consequences of modern booming industry, environmental pollution is becoming another globally bothersome issue. To deal with it, collective efforts and cooperation between countries are called for.

Another hot topic could be that someone believes that present terrorism activities and local conflicts are caused by increasing globalization. We cannot deny that during globalization, conflicts indeed exist between different races, different religions. However, globalization is also an effective way to contract with all the countries to get rid of these conflicts and terrorism. Country safety and international cooperation against terrorism has been put to a significant level for most countries. For instance, China has joined the international community in condemning and fighting terrorism and is playing a constructive role in the international counter-terrorism struggle. In accordance with China report that "In June 2001, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan founded the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). As we all know, it issued the Shanghai Declaration, which clearly said that the members would cooperate to fight against international terrorism, ethnic separatism and religious extremism.”
Good transnational corporations have upper-level methods of operation and management, which are widely used in the world. Frenchman Henri Fayola considers management to consist of five functions: planning, organizing, leading, coordinating, controlling. Organization is a significant part of management. As a famous global international organization -- the World Trade Organization (WTO)mediate trade disputes and set up a uniform platform of trading. When advanced technology and equipment are imported, we must run enterprises with advanced management and operation techniques and set attainable quotas. According to Hitt Michael, "Strategic management cases are produced from competitiveness and globalization." Some chain stores run well all over the world, such as hamburger chains—KFC, McDonalds, supermarket
chains-Carrefour, Wal-Mart. There is a lot of famous name brand. For instance, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Armani, Chanel, Cartier. Why do these groups run well all over the world ? Because they have highest standards of administration and marketing. As a renowned and successful Chinese brand, Haier’s management philosophy and mmodel is clearly exceptional." Haier's global branding process combines the best in eastern and western management thinking to create a foundation for further innovation. "They insist in actively and effectively using foreign capital, emphasize bringing in advanced technologies, modern managerial expertise and specialists, and support multiple forms of cooperation. Management in business and human organization activity, in simple terms means the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals. Haier's Individual Goal Combination management system means that every employee is an independent and innovative SBU with the goal of achieving primacy in the marketplace. As the Chief Execute Operator Zhang Ruimin management innovations have been widely recognized by international management institutions. Haier's "Market Chain" management was also included in the European Union's case study database. Haier's Individual-Goal Combination management system is currently assisting companies around the world to better manage their storage and due receivable systems.

Globalization is not incidental to our lives nowadays, but oppositely the developing tendency worldwide. Basically it penetrates every aspects of daily life along with apparent benefits. Despite of some harmful impacts it brings, they can also be realized and solved by cooperation of all nations. That is to say, human beings can make use of globalization to serve people better instead of suffering. Globalization is even vital to management operation besides above mentioned aspects. Strategies are always made out of the consideration of global perspective and haves to be accustomed to globalization requirement in order to achieve success in competitive market.

selfstudy on BBC comments about the Olympic closing ceremony

BBC comments about the Olympic closing ceremony, then I try to translate into Chinese.

Oh my god,the Chinese will be a hard act to follow. What a shambles the British effort was, very embarrassing indeed. A double decker bus, beckham, an xfactor winner, a sweaty aging rock star, dancers with umbrellas throwng newspapers everywhere. I guess a good symbol of modern day Britain. I fear our efforts will always be second class to China. This might show new labour off for what they are and what they have done to our once great country
The dancing was a bit straggly in the " London " routine . After seeing all the cyclists taking part, the Chinese will think "Nobody can afford cars in London "
The British "teaser" was ok, but we were disappointed to see the performer in the wheelchair was not in fact disabled but was leaping around later in the dance.
Did anyone else this the 'London 8 minutes' presentation was - dare I say it - rubbish!? Leona sang her heart out on top of a ladder, on top of a bus whilst 20 contemporary dancers did their stuff way below. It was just so low key relative to what had gone on before it.
But oh, our offering at the closing ceremony was embarrassing.A red bus,a pop singer, an ageing rocker and an overpaid ball kicker was awful. Where was our great Island heritage portrayed in all this flummery?
Organisers - please do better for us in 2012.
And why can't Boris button his jacket? Too fat or bad tailoring?
I've just watched the Olympic closing ceremony, and as I feared, Britain's contribution was embarassing and totally pathetic - I just hope they manage to do better in 2012. It will obviously be impossible to rival the spectacular pageant that Beijing provided, but I thought the dancing (if you can call that dancing) and the Leona Lewis/Jimmy Page effort was just pitiful. Hopefully, we can ditch all this government inspired 'Cool Britannia' garbage and present something a bit more slick and professional.
I agree that Adrian Childs was poor: he seemed to think that he was on the One Show. The London Bus routine was pretty much rubbish ... the music was poor and everything smacked of pop culture. Period. The Games themselves were superbly run. The BBC was teetering on the brink of overblown nationalism, however.
Jimmy Page and David Beckham have been massive icons of British popular culture. I'm not especially a fan of either, but they perfectly suited to the ceremony. Not bothered either way about Leona whatshername, but the chief embarrassment, reducing us instantly to laughing stock of the world and diminishing at a stroke the achievements of our athletes, was the presence of Boris Bloody Johnson!!! This man symbolizes everything wrong with Britain - a deeply untalented buffoon, with a thoroughly sinister interior. Get him off the stage once and for all.
When I heard about the plans for the London presentation, including the "arrangement" of the national anthem and the rehashed 70s rock music, I thought "it can't possibly be as bad as I'm imagining it". Well, it wasn't. It was a thousand, toe-curlingly hideous times worse. Against the dignity, seriousness and power of the Chinese displays, it was so far beyond embarrassing, my brain has already almost forgotten it, in a desperate paroxysm of self-defence.
omg, I hope our eight minutes during the closing ceremony is not a foretaste of the tackiness to come in four years time. " It felt a lot longer than eight minutes..... Every cringe and every gasp of horror made it feel like a lifetime! If that is all we have to offer, lets hope the rest of the world has popped out down the pub when we take centre stage. Our athletes deserve much better than this, they did us proud in Beijing (lets not forget the Paralympics too) and will continue to do so.

I have been glued to the Olympics constantly and very proud of Team GB but my god what on earth was that 8 minute section in the closing ceremony. The chinese put on a fantastic show and we have basically a red bus and a sparkler.Who ever put this together should be sacked before we are embarressed anymore. By the way BBC should be given a gold medal for the coverage, first class.

A beautifully organised Games all around, then Boris appears, jacket undone, looking like a drunk who gatecrashed the party, what an embarrassment

Leona! Poor girls must be so nervous! —— She sounds like a whale mating I didn't think it was possibly but this both sucks and blows. Grow up London 2012 and stop trying to be so 'cool'. This is embarrassing.
Funny how the Beijing Olympics had absolutely nothing to do with Beijing. They were all about China. But the London Olympics are apparently all about London.
Is anyone else finding this all a bit shabby after the chinese dancing etc
Why don't my buses look like that?
The Chinese did it again the closing was amazing. First class and out of this world. The one negative was the London Show what in the heck was that. In Athens when the Chinese did there welccome to show it was amazing and you knew you where going to get something special in Beijing. I hope that London does better than what they showed to-day.
Replicate it, we don’t have a chance it hell. For one thing we’ll be lucky to find 1% of the volunteers from Beijing. Perhaps all the people claiming on benefits should be forced to volunteer !!! Smith, London
Dont know what to laugh more at - the tacky 8 minutes of rubbish the UK put on in Beijing or the smug comments on here about how "At least we are free.." Last time I looked the UK was the most watched (CCTV) nation on earth and we have a government that has used fear and hate to strip us of freedoms on a daily basis. The only difference between the UK and China is that they wasted billions more than we can afford to- but Im sure we'll waste as much as we can. But freedom?? Dont make me laugh!
The Chinese people seem to love all things western (David Beckham included by the looks of it) but in return all we can do is bad mouth them and show no respect. What does that say about us. There’s an old saying, treat people the same as how you would like to be treated. Rob, London
Oops, I forgot about the fireworks. Weren't they wonderful! I was so impressed by how they managed to create the Olympic Rings in the sky - truly amazing. Thank you China. [cheesed-off], United Kingdom
I have two tips for you, Boris. Keep your hands out of your pockets when attending high-profile events like this, and secondly fire whoever responsible for this fiasco and hire proper showbiz professionals – from Las Vegas if necessary – to handle the opening and closing ceremonies in 2012. Another toe-curling embarrassment like this would be unendurable.
The closing ceremony was, as expected, spectacular and beautiful.
I have just finished watching the Closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. I must say that it was an incredible show from the beginning to the end. The whole event went on very smoothly. I agree with the IOC chairman that these games have opened China to the world and the world to China.
Thank you family of China. Thank you Beijing 2008. We are all Children of the World and China have proved that to us. All of the Olympians deserve credit for all the dedication and effort. It is the Greatest Show on Earth. With the best of the best. 2012 will be a great test for GB and as one Nation what a great challenge for us.
Well done China on a fantastic organisation of the games which was flawless and Team GB for their medal haul. Thank you China for putting the U.S into second place.
Well done, China! You have given the world a magnificent Olympics despite the efforts of the chattering classes in the Western media to portray you as some Stalinist state.
The female who hugged Yao Ming was Lauren Jackson, an Australia basketball player playing in WNBA. After Yao entered NBA, there was rumor she had a crush on Yao, but Yao turned her down. There were many gossip about them. So, seeing them hugging at the closing ceremony really really made me laugh, because 4 years ago, at the closing ceremony of Athens Olympic, Yao and his girlfriend 'Ye Li' came out together and that was the first time their relationship went public(外国人也知道姚明的八卦啊) 那个在闭幕式上拥抱姚明的女运动员是在WNBA打球的Lauren Jackson,当姚进入NBA打球时,他们曾经发生过一段绯闻,但是姚拒绝了她>_<看到他们在闭幕式上拥抱真是太好玩了,你知道四年前在雅典的闭幕式上,姚和他的女朋友叶莉第一次手牵手出现在公众面前 What was that red bus /umbrella garbage all about? What an embarrassment for UK. It was not so much the pathetic handover performance that upset me, but the arrogant, rude and disgraceful behavior of London’s mayor Boris Johnson when attending the handover party in Bejing. Show some respect Mr BJ ! Beijing was a gracious host and deserves some praise at the handover. Production of Global sporting superstars at the 2008 Beijing Games is correct and will remain memorable. Yet, some of us tend to place focus on matters of less importance and one wonders what is their ulterior motives. All countries with high crime rates should learn from these recently concluded games, and note that it is of high importance to develop the youths sporting potential from a tender age, so that their high energy can be burnt in the right direction and not in criminal activities. Hollis N Hosein, Trinidad and Tobago -WI Well done China, well presented games, Boris came across well, showed we have a good mayor, who knows what London has to do to ensure we put on a good show, advice from those of us who are still British is dump most of the things in the 8 minutes as they are not in tune with London/British values or what people know us for, increase the use of the union flag as the useless logo looks half useful in that guise! Boris has clearly been saddled with Livingston’s leftie leftovers, dump them be bold! (这段翻译得不好,这人反讽能力太强了,囧) I t has been a long time that I felt embarrassed for 8 long minutes. I really hope the organizers get there act together for the 2012 Olympics in London, because whether we like it or not the Chinese did a wonderful job from beginning to end. Whether true or false, let us hope the Red Arrows will do a fly past at the opening ceremony in London because that will be something worth watching, unless of course Boris has something up his sleeve to surprise us all. 无论正确与否,让我们希望在伦敦开幕式前the Red Arrows(英国红箭飞行表演队,在BBC开幕式的评论上就有英国人提到我们不会又上红箭吧,看来英国果然只有红箭啊-_-)能够腾飞起来,只有那样,说不定才有点看头,除非Boris又把他的手揣在兜里,来给我们所有人一个惊喜! There is one word for the "London 2012" presentation at the Beijing Olympic closing ceremony...naff ! This includes Boris Johnson who looked as though he is in need of a decent tailor. It would help if he buttoned up his jacket. He looked like a 4th form schoolboy. The Chinese show was magnificent. Our athletes were brilliant. The closing ceremony was just fine apart from the British bit which was simply atrocious! Why did we have some prehistoric rock guitarist and a talent show winner miming to some abysmal sound track? What has David Beckham got to do with the Olympics? Hardly portrays a young, vibrant and exciting vision of what the 2012 games might offer. If this is an example of how good London's Olympics is going to be, then perhaps Boris should ask the Chinese to keep the Olympic flame in Beijing. The Beijing to London handover shows how ill equipped we are to deal with an event of this scale. Compared to spectacular displays by the Chinese, our offering is a pathetic embarrassment. The 2012 Party belongs on Blue Peter and was on par with an end of term school show: Scouting for Girls destroying London’s Calling; Morrisons’ theme tune by Last Choir Standing and The Feeling playing with no feeling at all. Is this all Britain has to offer? The Chinese showed their rich heritage and history in a dignified and beautiful performance. Us? We showed just what a farce 2012 will be. Our country's heritage (prior to the last government!) is one to be proud of. We have customs and a richer history than many others. So why are we showing a logo from the 70's (I'm a designer, it's shocking!) and a display of ageing rock, one-hit wonders, chavs and only modern London? I'm proud to be English, but in 2012? I may be moving... 那我们为什么却要拿出一个70年代的logo(我是个设计师,太雷人了!) Lets hope the UK can match the chinese games with same character and skill! Well its all up to Boris now and his management capabillities!! We know our athletes are capable!! Mind you he has on hell of a job to beat!! Why couldn't the BBC TV commentators just shut up when there is music on the screen? They did the same stupid thing at the opening and once again today. The TV is there for us to WATCH and when the music is on why give commentary? Also so much about history and the meaning of this and the meaning of that and the symbolism of this and that. For Heavans sake WHY did they not just shut up and let us listen to the music, to the drums and all that was happening. This was a disastrous coverage. 606: "A beautifully organised Games all around, then Boris appears, jacket undone, looking like a drunk who gatecrashed the party, what an embarrassment." AND HERE'S BECKS! AND A WOMAN IN A RUNNING OUTFIT PLAYING A VIOLIN! Becks boots a ball into the crowd... just the one, and it doesn't quite make the crowd... a couple of officials have a bit of a scrabble over it... and that's that, London's eight minutes are up... what to make of that?

Summarise the main effects of globalisation and discuss to what extent they are beneficial to subject area

Introduction:
What is Globalization?Nowadays, globalization has become an important issue, which draws general concern of the international community. The effect of globalisation is all-pervasive. For example, international political, economic, scientific, technological and cultural exchanges. Does it bring advantages or disadvantages to the world has become a hot focus. Supporters contend that the globalization has a positive effects, and far outweigh the disadvantages .On the other hand, critics think . “While strong economic growth has made most people better off in absolute terms, globalization is often blamed for the widening gap between rich and poor.”[1](IMF, 2007).In this essay , I will observe on the positive and negative of globalization in different areas, such as international trade, environmental pollution and then I will discuss the benefits to my subject area--- management.

1.Globalization makes it possible to carry out international trade between different countries, by which they can reasonably make use of resources and exert their competitive advantage. Therefore overall resource and benefits can be maximized from global point of view.a. domestic market vs. global market, competitive advantages.b.. locations of raw material, final product and market are more close and easily transported between each other.

2.Globalization plays a significant role in people's daily life.a. transport &communication(Shrinking world)b. poverty & rich countriesc. Peace &war (politically) e.g. Terrorism.

3.As one of negative consequences of modern booming industry, environmental pollution is becoming another globally bothersome issue. To deal with it, collective efforts and cooperation between countries are called for.

4.Good translational corporations have upper-level management ways, which are widely used in the world. We should continue to actively and effectively use foreign capital, emphasize bringing in advanced technologies, modern managerial expertise and specialists, and support multiple forms of cooperation .

Conclusion:Globalization has become a development tendency in the whole world .The harmful impacts of globalization should be solved by all nations By working together, we can make use of globalization to serve people better.

introduction 2

'The advantages of a ' surveillance society ' far out weigh the draw backs' To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is considered that 'surveillance society' has far more advantages than the draw backs in this complicated society .The use of CCTV is becoming more and more widespread in recent 20 years. In Britain (1996)between 150 and 300 million pounds (225 - 450 million dollars) per year is now spent on a surveillance industry involving an estimated 300,000 cameras . 1
Especially in public spaces ,such as factories, offices, dwelling areas , supermarkets, shopping mall etc, which are closely related to people due to the security requirement, bringing a lots of advantages to the society.Currently a hot issue is that it may bring negative effect by violating individual privacy to install CCTV in public places. However, it is not reasonable to deal with private affairs in these places, and therefore the installation of CCTV is acceptable. The primary purpose is to prevent from possible theft. Meanwhile, it is better to master personnel by this way rather than any thought of violating privacy. This paper will compare the pros and cons about monitors, secondly discuss how to make the objectors to accept the CCTV.

CCTV are set in public other than sneakily functioning to increase sense of safety among common people as well as to threaten potential criminals. When the crime cases happen, it is always the convenient way to replay the video by CCTV to search for any clue. When we get a ticket for running a red light, when no one was around but the camera. It is not just that CCTV may capture our image several hundred times a day, that check-out clerks want to see our loyalty cards in the supermarket or that we need a coded access card to get into the office in the morning. It is that these systems represent a basic, complex infrastructure which assumes that gathering and processing personal data is vital to contemporary living.

Read newspaper and watch TV

When I go to school by tube everyday, I find many people read newspaper. I think it is a good habit. At first, I didn't know I could make free with it .Now ,I will read newspaper on my seat .Recently ,you know,2008 Olympic Games will hold in China. I am concerned about that.On today's news, one report is "we 're so proud of our Tibet protest daughter" Two free Tibet campaigners from Britain were n custody last night after unfurling a Tibetan flag and banner outside the Olympic stadium in Beijing.

I just want to say,Tibat is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. At last ,I wish 2008 Olympic Games will come to a complete success.

When I come back to home ,I watch BBC 1 and ITV 1 London. This will improve my listening and correct my pronunciation.

My Grammar is good,I won't spend too much time on it.

It is mistaken to think that children don't need t learn basic arithmetic. If teachers do not give this skills to their students.[what will happen?][why this is bad?]

My written

Children will lose the skills ,how to do arithmetic.Arithmetic should not be insteaded by pocket calculators. Especially for children, they need to learn more basic skills to exploit IQ.In our daily life,we just pay for a coffee, then you bring calculator out to count how many coins should give change. How funny is it!

Teacher's written

They won't be able to deal with the daily business of their lives such as working out discount prices, and checking their change. This could result in these students being cheated out of money. As a result of this, students might feel less confident. This form of mathematical thinking is also extremely important for general development of IQ.

In spite of the same meaning .My expression is not as clear and comprehensive as the Teacher's written .

Technology
CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) is a visual surveillance technology designed for monitoring a variety of environments and activities. CCTV systems typically involve a fixed (or "dedicated") communications link between cameras and monitors.

Introduction 1

I failed on introduction 1,Steve said "it is a mini-essay." I feel very bad, so I decide to rewrite it.

Background
"We live in a world in which we are dangerously influenced by media images. "To what extent do you agree with this statement.

It is generally agreed that our daily life is influenced in many areas by the media. The media means of mass communication, such as newspapers, magazines, radio, television or broadcasting media .Television is the most powerful medium of all, and influence on our life .

There are many kinds of programmes on TV, such as news, sports, entertainment, cooking, soap operas, documentaries, science and education. Most people spend free time in front of the TV alone or with family members , has become a habit .People should keep a critical yet unbiased eye on the advantages and disadvantages that the television have brought and are going to bring to us .It enrich our life and bring some negative effects at the same time.

Undoubtedly, excessive viewing of television has also been linked to aggressive behaviour, violence, pornographic. Especially, it's harmful to children's Mental Health . According to J. Van Evra, author of Television and Child Development, young children are particularly vulnerable to the influence of commercial advertising.

In this essay, I would like to explain what the media is and then weigh the pros and cons of the influence of television.

Feedback of seminar 2

I think the second time is better than the seminar 1. I did enough on reasearching informations about CCTV, DNA databases, and biometrics .I read Steve's link seriously. I spoke for a part of time during the seminar, and gave my groupers a new technology. However, in the most time ,I was listenning to other people, because there were two people , who were good at speaking in our group . Although it was hard to interrupt them, I tried my best to speak more. Give everyone a chance to express their thoughts, so I 'd like to be a good listener. I could argue my opinion clearly.I gave an example of CCTV and IT techonolgy. In these two seminars ,I was adept at helping keep the discussion moving in the right direction, and renminded the time to go on the next question.I think my pronunciation is OK, groupers can understand clearly, but I can improve it better. That's all.

Research on new technologies in fighting crime

Figures published in the British Crime Survey (BCS) 2006-07 show that overall crime rates held steady in England and Wales over the past year. This is part of a long-term trend - crime rates peaked in 1995, then fell by 42% over the subsequent 10 years. The decline reduced the risk of the average person becoming a victim of crime by 41%, although that risk increased by one percentage point last year. Police recorded crime rates showed violent crime rates fell by 1% over the last year - the first fall in that category in eight years. The number of police recorded crimes involving firearms declined by 13% during the same time period. Some crime categories did show increases, but vandalism was the only category to show a statistically significant change over the year - vandalism reports increased by 10%. However, even with that increase, reports of vandalism are still 11% lower now than they were in 1995.

New technology targets traditional crime

Moving the BattlegroundThe average European is less likely to be a victim of crime than ten years ago. The statistics for the UK alone suggest a 41 per cent drop¹. Many experts attribute a large part of this improvement to the impact of new technologies.Improvements include:

The FutureIP technology will equip police forces with science fiction style tools. Command and control centres will have always on communication with mobile forces to allow location based services, instant suspect reports based on facial recognition technology and devices that support online fingerprint and DNA analysis and matching.

semina 1 learning

There are three parts in these semina,I choose the questions which are important and arecontroversial.
as follows:

Part 1 : Television viewing habits around the world

1.In this semina, I learnt televison viewing habits in different countries.

France,Iraq,Thailand and China.most people in these countries spend three to six hours on TV.About 60% people in Irap and Thailand stay at home ,not go to work,so they spend more time on TV.It is diffenrt from China and France.

2.The kinds of programmes people watch

For examples: soap opera , a current affairs , sports, news, a nature programmes, a game show, documentary, science and educational programmes ,music programmes, a series of stories.

Part 2 Television images

1.the disscusion on whether reality TV show reality.

three people think it is reality, and the other two don't think so.In my opinion, some reality TV show are not reality.Because it supported by sponsors, who want to make someone win,so they maybe control something. If the government participate in ,we won't have the power of decision. But some of my classmates don't understand the meaning of TV show, they just talk about the reality on TV,not reality TV show, so we have some differneces.

2.Can they influece the we think and behave.

We have the same opinion .Whether we want to be thin,to buy products or to commit violence is depends on our mind, not TV images. We are not children ,so we can analyze and judge them whether is effective like that ,especially for advertisements.

Part 3:The future for televison and televison viewers

1.The hot issue is " should it be taught in schools?"
At the beginning, half people in my grouper were disagree .They thought it should not.During a hot debate , they accepted our viewpoint.

Children

It's necessary taht media literacy should be taugt in schools. The need to increase media competence and understanding among young people has never been greater. Not only is the amount of information vast, the way information is presented is changing constantly. If children are to understand the world in which they live, it is essential that they are able to think critically about what they see and hear. All children develop differently. When viewing television, different children extract varied meanings based on background, culture and maturity. At each of these individual stages, children’s understanding of what they watch, hear, see or compute will change along with their physical, emotional and developmental characteristics. Most parents don't have enough time to teach their children,so school will assume the duties.

preparation for seminar 1

Television viewing habits around the world

1.How much TV people watch?

About 100 TV .some of them are free ,others are need to pay. In China ,if you want to add channels ,it is very cheap, which is 25 yuan per month.

2.The kinds of programmes people watch

For examples: soap opera , a current affairs , sports, news, a nature programmes, a game show, documentary, science and educational programmes ,music programmes, a series of stories.

3.How television viewing habits changed in the last 20 years

the types of programmes are simple and boring. people waited in front of television for those several programmes. it only took only a few hours .with the development of media, different kinds of types are pouring out.people have more choices to choose attractive programmes. a of people who like to sit on sofa with crisp change more fat. In the current critical climate, people aren't just watching TV, they also make any commentary on media .

4.The positive/negative effects that these television viewing habits may have on our lives.

f.g news media

Recently the negative impacts of the news media have aroused some people’s concern. On one hand, some people contend that the news media are distorting people’s real thought, and impose unrealistic descriptions on people’s minds. In other words, the over-commercialized news media tend to provide people with false or exaggerated stories. On the other hand, still others believe that news media sometimes have an unsatisfying occupational discipline and undesirable professional morality. The editors of newspapers and TV stations sometimes even invent false stories to attract more attention and audience, regardless what the real situation is. That is the simple reason why millions of people are losing their faith in news media.

However, if we take a close look at the functions of news media more objectively, we can easily find out its advantages. First and foremost, with the popularization of the news media, we are able to acquire first-hand knowledge and information on what is happening all over the world. I believe that the majority of the journalists and reporters are professionally well-trained, therefore can perform their duties with justice. In addition, news media can play the role of an educator. Not only could people get to know all the details from the news reportage, which will indirectly enrich viewers’ social and life experience, but more importantly, most news media also have colourful educational columns, which will enable viewers to receive education in specialized fields.

In my view, although news media are never without their demerits such as cheating information, overstatement of product’s functions and so on, it is still a driving force of modern civilization. Their demerits can be removed step by step when some feasible measures are adopted. If we take an objective view of the news media, we can easily recognize that it is not only informative but also educational.

Television images

1. How real are the images we see on TV?Does reality TV show reality? Who controls the images we see on TV?Can they influence the way we think and behave, for example making us want to be thin,to buy products or commit violence?

It's hard to say how real it is.I think reality TV show doesn't reality.Because it supported by sponsors, they want to make someone win,so they maybe control something. If the government participate in ,we won't have the power of decision.

Nothing has received more praise and abuse than the news media. The 21st century has witnessed the development of mass media, from the popularity of the newspaper to the prosperity of the Internet.
prevailing is the news media that nobody can avoid being influenced by it. When it comes to the functions of the news media, people hold divergent views. In this essay, I will analyze the functions of the news media and then present my personal viewpoint.sometimes when some advertisements are shown,we should judge them whether is effective like that .

2. Do you think that television images reinforce or challenge stereotypes? in your group, try to list any stereotypes which you think are common on TV and any specific examples of each from programmes you know. Can stereotypes on TV be avoided?

Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.

But stereotypes can be problematic. They can:

reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations

transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities"

be used to justify the position of those in power

perpetuate social prejudice and inequality

children must be able to interpret critically;

“Perhaps the most important characteristic of critical viewing is the ability to think critically about viewing .

my thoughts:research the reason why children likes or dislikes a programme, distinguish between real life and what one watch on TV.
